MUSIC OF THE NIGHT

A collection of Broadway show tunes, contemporary films, and 2 original compositions. Accompanied by flute, trumpet, and percussion, Mike gives the "center stage" to the piano drawing from his 30 years experience playing some of these show tunes: Music of the Night (Phantom of the Opera), West Side Story Medley, Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Evita), Unusual Way (Nine), Fiddler on the Roof Medley, Part of Your World (Little Mermaid), Soon It's Gonna Rain (The Fantasticks), Colors of the Wind (Pocahontas), Walking the Green (original), Try To Remember (The Fantasticks), Isn't it Romantic (Love Me Tonight), Copland (original).

Mike says: Some of my favorite parts of this record are the dreamy sound of Jay Thomas's trumpet on 'Maria' from West Side Story, Ben Smith's great drum feel on the rumba 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina', the overall recorded sound of 'Colors of the Wind' from Pocahontas, and the dark majestic flavor of the piano on 'Music of the Night' from Phantom of the Opera. Sometimes bright and cheerful, sometimes peaceful and soothing, this recording is full of life, fun and good spirits.
